Geriatric Engineering is the science of applying engineering concepts to solve mechanical and control systems deficiencies that arise as people age and aplying these to assistive living environments extending independent living. The textbook starts with an introduction to the field of human aging. It examines how human aging is viewed and how society responds to the issues of aging. This is followed by an introduction to system design techniques of assistive technologies to foster independent living.
