This volume has been significantly reorganized and updated to focus specifically on therapeutic apheresis. Content addressing donor apheresis and cellular therapy are addressed in separate volumes. The first half of the book covers the history of therapeutic apheresis, current instrumentation, basic principles, clinical consultation, and patient management. The second half of the book covers disease-specific applications of therapeutic apheresis in hematologic, neurologic, renal, rheumatologic, and endocrine disorders; transplantation; and vascular and cardiac disorders. New content includes: * Most recent evidence-based guidelines for therapeutic apheresis * Tandem procedures (plasma exchange performed with ECMO, dialysis, or CVVH) * Updated and expanded coverage of many diseases including: - Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis - Paraproteinemic demyelinating neuropathies; chronic acquired demyelinating polyneuropathies - Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis * Addition of new diseases not included in the previous edition: - Antibody-mediated encephalitis - Steroid-responsive encephalopathy associated with autoimmune thyroiditis - Vasculitis - Thyroid storm Information regarding pathogenesis, therapy, and the role of therapeutic apheresis is provide for all category I and II indications for therapeutic apheresis as listed in the special issue of the Journal of Clinical Apheresis published in 2019.
