Synopsis:
The animal feed sector faces increasingly complex challenges. It needs to improve feed digestibility/efficiency whilst also promoting growth and enhancing both product quality and safety. At the same time, it has an increasingly important role in helping to promote animal health, welfare and the sustainability of farming. This collection summarises key research and advances in this area to support R&D staff in the sector as well as inform other stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and the academic research community. Part 1 reviews ways of identifying new feed ingredients, developments in feed processing techniques and their effect on feed quality, as well as techniques to test feed quality. Part 2 covers regulatory frameworks for testing the efficacy of animal feed products, assessing and managing risks from mycotoxin contamination, risk assessment systems for prevention and control of safety risks, as well as developing effective product dossiers to secure regulatory approval for new animal feed products. Developing animal feed productswill be a standard reference for companies involved in the manufacture of animal feed, as well as researchers in livestock nutrition, government and other agencies regulating the animal feed sector.
